MEYER
HALPERN (1905-August 31, 1980)
He was born in Lodz, Poland, and
there he lived until WWII, at which point he fled to Russia. After the war he returned to Poland, and
until 1949 he lived in Germany, from whence he made aliya to Israel. He published poetry in publications of the
Lodz poetry group, later contributing as well to such Warsaw serials (among
others) as: Dos vort (The word), Der moment (The moment), Literarishe bleter (Literary leaves),
and Vokhnshrift far literatur (Weekly
writing for literature); and to Tsukunft
(Future) in New York; and Letste nayes
(Latest news) in Tel Aviv. In book form:
Lider (Poems) (Warsaw, 1937), 48 pp.;
A veg in der nakht (A path at night),
poems (Munich, 1949), 136 pp.; A tir tsum
droysn, lider (A doorway to the outside) (Tel Aviv, 1982), 222 pp. He died in Tel Aviv.
