MANYE [MARIAM] GOTENBERG (b. October 19, 1919)
She was born in Novoselits (Novoseltsa),
Bessarabia. In 1948 she graduated from
middle school in Czernowitz and in 1955 from the natural science faculty of
Bucharest University. She taught in
Jewish school in Romania and in Israel, having made aliya in 1969. She wrote for Ikuf-bleter (Pages from IKUF [Jewish Cultural Association]) in
Bucharest from 1948 to 1953, when this periodical closed down. From 1982 she wrote for Yidishe tsaytung (Jewish newspaper) (Tel Aviv, subsequently known
as Di naye tsaytung [The new newspaper]). She compiled and edited: Yidishe shprakh, farn tsveytn elementar-klas (The Yiddish language,
for the second, elementary class) (Bucharest: State Publ., 1949), 288 pp.; Yidishe shprakh, farn fertn elementar-klas
(The Yiddish language, for the fourth, elementary class) (Bucharest: State
