SH. Z. HARKAVI

SH. Z. HARKAVI (d. 1941)

            He was the custodian of the Grodno yeshiva in Vilna.  He wrote for the Orthodox weekly newspaper Dos vort (The word) in Vilna (1925-1937).  He wrote on education and about religious texts.  At the start of the Nazi occupation, prior to being confined in the Vilna ghetto, he was arrested by the Gestapo.  He was among the first martyrs in Vilna who were murdered by the Nazis.
