L. SHIF (1901-1942)
He was a
poet and journalist, born Fishl Shpitalevitsh in Shnyadove (Śniadowo),
Poland. He was an Orthodox leader and
teacher in Mlave (Mława). He began writing for the daily newspaper Der yud (The Jew). He went on to contribute to: Dos yudishe togblat (The Jewish daily
newspaper), Ortodoksishe yugend bleter
(Orthodox youth sheets), Deglanu (Our
flag), Darkhenu (Our way), and Unzer tribune (Our tribune) which he
edited. He also used the pen name:
Ben-Ish. His poetry and poetic prose may
also be found in Moyshe Prager’s Di antologye fun religyeze lider un dertseylungen (The anthology of religious poetry and stories) (New York,
1955). He died in the Warsaw Ghetto.
