YOYSEF AZIEL (AZILESCU)
He hailed from Iași, Romania,
the son of Yehiel-Mikhl Aziel (editor of Hayoets [The advisor]),
journalist, editor of the daily newspaper Yidisher telegraf (Jewish
telegraph: from April 1, 1877 to September 15, 1878), which was the first
Yiddish daily newspaper in Romania. In
1895 he renovated his father’s weekly, Hayoets, which was published
under the title Der vahre hayoets lebeys yisroel beromania
(The true advisor to the house of Israel in Romania); later in 1904 it appeared
twice weekly, until WWI.
