ARN (AARON) FUN CZERNOWITZ
He translated into Yiddish and annotated the Makhzor (Prayer
book) for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, “according to the traditions of Poland,
Lithuania, and Byelorussia,” published by P. M. Balaban in Lemberg (Lvov, Lviv)
with the title Korbm arn (Aaron’s offering) (Czernowitz, 1850). The Yiddish of this Machzor, in the words of
Yankev Glatshteyn, was “of a purity such as one does not find the like in the
prayer literature of the entire world.”
Y.
Glatshteyn, in Folk un velt (People and world) (New York, January 1956).
