JULIUS ADLER

JULIUS ADLER (b. November 15, 1880)

Born in Bialystok, Poland.  He became an actor in 1891.  In 1904 he came to the United States.  Aside from articles about Yiddish theater, he wrote or adapted plays that were performed, such as: Dorflibe (Village love), Dos tsveyte vayb (The second wife), Di mume gnendl (Aunt Gnendl), and Di sheyne berta (Beautiful Bertha).  He translated a play by Gabriella Zapolska, August Strindberg’s The Father, Henrik Ibsen’s Ghosts, Emmerich Kalman’s operetta Die Csárdásfürstin, and the drama The Friend from Levitina (?).
