SHLOYME BROMBERG (1862-1919)
Born in Lodz, he attended religious primary school and
synagogue study hall. He was among the
members of the first Lodz “lovers of Zion” (Ḥoveve-tsiyon [early Zionists]). He was a merchant and a small-level
manufacturer. During the years of WWI,
he left Lodz and took refuge in Russia.
He was the author of a novel written in the style of Ayzik Meyer Dik: Di
shreklekhe nekome fun a vayb (The horrifying revenge of a wife) (Lodz,
1899), 96 pp. (published under the pen name “Meshulem Hagiber”). He also published the collection, Der
gedank vegn tsiyen (The idea of Zion) (Lodz, 1900), 24 pp., which included
articles concerning Zionism.
