ARN BROMBERG (1886-January 8, 1953)
He was born in Ostrowce, Poland. His father, although a misnoged
(anti-Hassidic), was an employee of the Gerer Rebbe. Around 1910 he emigrated to the United
States. He studied at the University of
Toronto, Canada. He was one of the
pioneer teachers in the Workmen’s Circle Schools in Toronto, Detroit, and
Syracuse. He later settled in New York,
where he continued his pedagogical work.
He introduced into the Jewish secular schools celebratory Jewish High
Holidays and Kabbalat Shabbat service (Friday evening). He virtually alone created the materials for
his lectures, and he left behind textbooks in manuscript. Only after his death was his book published: Khumesh-mayses
far kinder (Bible stories for children), published by a group of his
friends (New York, 1954), 96.
