LEYE (LEAH) BRAUN (October 28, 1890-September 1, 1970)
She was born in Bobruisk, Byelorussia. Her father was Avrom Zverkin. From her earliest childhood years, she studied
with her parents in Kherson, southern Russia.
At age fourteen she joined the Zionist workers’ movement. In 1906 she emigrated to the United States,
and there in the 1920s she was among the founders of the Pioneer Women’s
Organization. Her first publication was
in Di pyonern-froy (The pioneer woman), travel observations from a trip to
Israel. She published treatises in: Farband-shtime
(Voice of the Alliance), Tog (Day), and Idisher kemfer (Jewish
fighter), as well as in Hebrew publications.
She spent the years 1933-1941 in Palestine. She lived her last years in New York.
