YANKEV-YEHUDE AKERMAN (JACOB JUDAH ACKERMAN)
He was the son-in-law of Rabbi David Ginzburg. He served as head of the rabbinical court of
Rochester, New York and Willes Barre, Pennsylvania. He authored a book entitled Biblishe un moderne
poemen un lider (Biblical and modern poems and songs) (New York [New Bedford,
MA?], 1922), 223 pp.—primitive poems on biblical topics, a cycle that the
author dubbed modern songs, two Hanukkah plays for children which were
separately printed in a small volume, a number of Hebrew verses, and one in English. Akerman was a clergyman in Portland, Maine,
and in New Bedford, Massachusetts.
