BERL-YOYEL KLEYN (1885-March 19, 1960)
He was
born in Selitsh (Selets? Selishche?). His
father with a ritual slaughterer. He
studied in yeshivas. He made his way to
the United States and worked as a house painter in New York. He began writing poetry, stories, and feature
pieces for the old Yiddish newspapers in Brownsville: Di post (The mail) and Progres
(Progress), among others. He later published
in: Di feder (The pen) of which he
was a cofounder, Yidishe shriftn (Yiddish
writings) in New York, Tog (Day), Forverts (Forward), Nyu-yorker volhnblat (New York weekly newspaper), Oyfsnay (Afresh), and Zayn (Being), among others. His pen name: Bibrodshub (the initials of
Berl-Yoyel ben Reb Elye-Dovid Shub). He
died in New York.
