BERL
ZAKHARYASH (1906-1928)
He
was born in Tomaszów Mazowiecki, Poland, into a poor working
family. He received a Jewish and a
general education. He studied in a
Polish Jewish high school in Tomaszów.
In 1921 he became a weaver in a factory.
For a time he lived in Baronovich, later in Warsaw. He was an active leader in the Bundist youth
group Tsukunft (Future). He published
lyrical and social poetry in Yugnt-veker
(Youth alarm) in Warsaw, Nayer folks-blat
(New people’s newspaper) in Lodz, and Tomashover
vokhnblat (Tomaszów weekly newspaper), among others. He died of tuberculosis in Warsaw.
