SHMARYE KLEYNMAN (1892-January 25, 1986)[1]
He was
born in Baranovke (Baranovka), Volhynia.
He graduated in medicine from Rostov-on-Don University in 1918. In late 1923 he emigrated to the United
States. He wrote features and articles
for Di yudishe studentshaft (The
Jewish student body) in Berlin (1913-1914), Naye
tsayt (New times) in Kiev (1917-1919), Der
strahl (The beam [of light]) in Warsaw (1921), Folkstsaytung (People’s newspaper) in Warsaw (1922-1923, in which
he had charge of the section “Shmuesn vegn higyene” [Chats about hygiene]), Folksgezunt (Public health), the monthly
Dos naye vort (The new word) in
Boston, and Fraye arbeter shtime
(Free voice of labor) in New York, among others. He also wrote under the pen name Y.
Shagal. He died in Detroit.
